Unique Treasures at the 38th Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction
Broadway fans and volunteers raised a record-breaking $1,421,675 at the 38th Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction on Sunday, September 22, 2024.
The day featured 64 shows and theatrical organizations represented at tables, 156 silent auction and 69 live auction lots offering once-in-a-lifetime experiences and rare memorabilia, and 45 of Broadway’s brightest stars signing autographs and taking photos with fans.
The Shubert Organization broke its own record, earning $45,968 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. These funds provide lifesaving meals, medication and healthcare in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C.
Some of the most buzzed about items at the Shubert table include the stage door from the Barrymore Theatre, a Fences window card signed by James Earl Jones, the armrests and exit signs from the Majestic Theatre, an electric guitar signed by the cast of The Heart of Rock and Roll, and jewelry made from retired Jacobs Theatre chandeliers. Fans also bid on a chandelier from the Cort Theatre (renamed the James Earl Jones Theatre) and a private tour of The Shubert Archive.
The Flea Market began more than three decades ago with two tables set up by cast members and stage managers of A Chorus Line outside their stage door in Shubert Alley. Now, the Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction is one of the most anticipated events of the season for theater lovers. Since 1987, the 38 editions of the event have raised $20.2 million.
